How to Make Attainable New Year"s Resolutions

It's the time of the year again for reflection and for planning ahead for the new year.
Perhaps you are like me who has made no new year's resolutions for a long time, because they didn't last anyway.
Take heart! If you really want next year to be the time of new beginnings, you need to change your mind and your attitude.
Do It For Yourself Find a quiet spot to ponder and think about what in your life really needs attention.
What is bothering you? Think about things that you'd like to change, not things that others think should change.
In order to succeed, you need to focus on what YOU want, not on what others expect.
Be Realistic Once you have decided what YOU really want and what would make YOU happy, it's time to set a realistic target for each goal.
Let's say you want to lose weight.
First, decide how much you need to lose, and then break it down into smaller targets.
Four to five kg per month is achievable; 15 kg per month is unrealistic.
So, if you need to lose 20 kg in total, set your target date for 4 to 5 months from now.
Define Your Strategy Once you have a clear vision of what you want to do, what you need to achieve and how long it will take you to get there, you must decide on a definite plan of action.
Again, be realistic.
If you're unfit, decide that you'll start by walking 20 - 30 minutes per day at a moderate pace.
What time of the day will it be possible for you to go for a walk? Perhaps early mornings will be best, even if you have to get up half an hour earlier than usual.
Or if you have a husband and children that need to get to work and school on time, you might want to consider another time of the day that will be more suitable.
Be Forgiving Towards Yourself You might have the best intentions and still not get it right all the time.
That's normal, and not a reason to quit.
If you didn't stick to your plan today, forgive yourself and get back on track tomorrow.
Three steps forward and one step back, is better than to slide back completely to your old ways again.
Reward Yourself You are taking the necessary steps to undo years' damage, and to transform yourself and your life.
Perhaps you're not going to achieve your dreams overnight, but you're going to get there.
That's all that matters.
So, be good to yourself.
Build in little incentives to motivate you along your road to a new you.
Spoil yourself when you have arrived at your next achievement.
Promise yourself a well-deserved gift or indulgence (not food, if you're losing weight!) and do it before you set foot to the next point on your road to victory.
Enjoy The Journey Don't just focus on the destination.
Enjoy every step in between.
Be open to learn new things and to discover the strength within you.
You'll be amazed on what you can do and what you've already achieved! Look back at where you've come from and see where you are now.
Remind yourself that you are a lot stronger than you think you are.
Celebrate Life Don't just live...
enjoy it to the fullest! Don't let anything stand between you and an abundant life.
Face your issues and do something about it.
You are on this earth to be a blessing to others.
But you can only make a difference in the lives of other people, if you love yourself.
If you're content with who you are, you can do whatever you set your mind on.
You have so much potential inside you.
Make your life count!
